About

I am a Professor at National University and the program director of the MA in English/Gothic Studies Specialization. I specialize in nineteenth-century Gothic chapbooks and have written extensively on the trade Gothic, the Gothic publishing industry, and the author Sarah Wilkinson.

I received my BA in English from the University of Utah and a PhD from the University of East Anglia. I joined National University in 2005 and primarily teach courses on the Gothic.

In 2010, I established Studies in Gothic Fiction and continue to serve on their journal’s editorial board. I published The History of Gothic Publishing, 1800-1835: Exhuming the Trade in  2005 and my new study, Gothic Chapbooks, Bluebooks, and Shilling Shockers will be published in January 2021 by the University of Wales Press.
